In the UPCAST (Outokumpu) Continuous Casting Plant, high-purity copper cathodes are melted in induction furnaces under a protective atmosphere. In the three-compartment melting furnace, the metal is refined in the holding section while being protected from oxygen, and then produced as wire rod with standard diameters ranging from Ø8 mm to Ø20 mm using the "Upcast" continuous casting method. The final product is prepared for shipment on pallets.
